SHS Pathway: Biomedical Pathway

Post High School Plans: I will be attending the University of Delaware to study Kinesiology on a Pre-Physical Therapy track with a minor in Spanish.

Dream Job: I hope to become a Physical Therapist, specializing in either Sports Rehabilitation or possibly Pediatrics. I have always loved staying active, whether it be working out or playing sports. So many people take the ability to exercise, dance, jump, run, climb up the stairs, go on walks, or simply just moving for granted. There are thousands of people who experience pain, discomfort, or mental blocks when trying to move their bodies on a daily basis. I hope to not only bring relief to these individuals, but I hope to reform the experience of going to the Physical Therapist into one that is looked forward to and not dreaded. I additionally hope to have a Physical Therapy practice of my own or to possibly even do non-profit work abroad to help those that cannot afford or access necessary medical care. Overall, I just want to help others live happy, healthy lives.

Who was your favorite teacher or staff member during your time at SHS?: My two favorite teachers at SHS have to be Mrs. Roberge and Mr. Wentworth. They both work so well together and have made every single Biomed and Science course I took during my time here unforgettable. “Ro” and “Went” are amazing, hilarious, educated, and incredibly qualified teachers. They always ensure that their students are having fun while simultaneously being immersed in the realm of Science. These two teachers are also the advisors of our outstanding, award-winning HOSA chapter. They have gone above and beyond to start this amazing organization at Scituate. Without Mrs. Roberge, Mr. Wentworth, and HOSA, I would not be where I am today.

What was your most favorite class you took during your time at SHS?: My two favorite classes I took at SHS were my period 4 Biomedical Innovations course with Mr. Wentworth during my junior year, and my current Spanish 4 Early Enrollment course with Senora Langlais. Biomedical Innovations exposed me to a whole alternate manufactural side of the medical field that I had no idea even existed. We constructed prototypes for new, innovative medical devices that could be used in the real world. The group of students in this class was also amazing, as we formed into a type of family. Every time I walked into class I couldn’t help but smile or laugh. This year, in my Spanish 4 class, we have studied mostly Spanish art history and culture which is extremely interesting. This past spring break, we were able to go abroad to Spain for the trip of a lifetime. Our group made unforgettable memories while gaining a first-hand perspective on everything we had been learning about throughout the year. I will never forget either of these two amazing courses, and I highly recommend taking them both.

What advice would you give to next year’s ninth-grade students?: I would tell next year’s freshmen to soak it all in. Everyone will tell you this, but it really does go by in the blink of an eye. Have fun, work hard, live in the moment, and make the most out of your four years here. Never say no to a new opportunity, hanging out with a different friend, or even trying a new sport or club. This community does present you with endless opportunities, so it is important that you take advantage of them. Do not fear doing something that may be outside of your comfort zone, as you won’t grow as an individual if you never do anything that challenges or scares you. And finally, do not invest one second of your time into worrying about what other people think about you. Be unapologetically you, and you only. The world is a better place with your beautifully unique personality. You will be walking across the gazebo before you can believe it, so have confidence that you will look back on these short four years with a proud smile.

What makes SHS special?: The obvious and most common answer to this question is our amazing small community. The “family” type bond that we have established here cannot be found at any other school in the state. However, I believe that the faculty at Scituate really make this place special. Teachers, assistants, janitors, lunch staff, and administration all have a genuine sense of care toward all students. If I was having a bad day and needed help, I could approach any of them knowing that they would make me feel better- or direct me to someone else who could. They are also the reason why I have so many unforgettable memories of SHS, as they work hand in hand with class officers to organize spirit weeks, pep rallies, spartan Olympics, dances, senior events, and many more events. The staff here goes above and beyond to make sure we get not just an amazing education, but also an amazing experience at Scituate High School.
