“SHS is so special because of the environment and community here.”
Heather Nolan
Elementary School: Clayville Elementary School
Post High School Plans: I will be attending Sacred Heart University to study exercise science with plans on becoming a physical therapist.
Dream Job: My dream job is to be a physical therapist and specialize in dancers. This career would allow me to incorporate everything I love and be able to help so many people throughout my life.
Who was your favorite teacher or staff member during your time at SHS?:My favorite teacher during my time at Scituate would have to be Mr. Wentworth. Aside from being a great teacher, he always took the time to check in on his students and make sure we were doing alright. He cared more about us as people than he did about our grades and it was refreshing to know there was always someone there to talk to if we needed it.
What was your most favorite class you took during your time at SHS?: My favorite class would be Mr. Ballou’s entrepreneurship class I took this past year. It was interesting to learn all the behind-the-scenes knowledge of running a business and he made it super fun by allowing us to create our own businesses at the beginning of the year. I loved that it was interactive and while he taught us about business, he also managed to sneak in life lessons along the way. This class was definitely one that sticks out to me from my time here and I will take the lessons he taught with me even after I graduate.
What advice would you give to next year’s ninth-grade students?: To the incoming freshman, I would say don’t take these four years for granted. While it is hard to get up early every morning and school can feel overwhelming at times, it is important to appreciate the good parts of it. Try to live in the moment, especially during school events, and get as involved as possible. These four years will fly by and you don’t want to look back knowing you missed out on fun because you were stressing too much about grades and the future.
What makes SHS special?: SHS is so special because of the environment and community here. With such a small population, it is easy to know everyone and I love that I got to grow up with the same kids I am graduating with. I still have so many of the same core friends I started kindergarten with and now getting to see my whole class walk the stage with me is such a bittersweet feeling. The small size also allows every student and class to create a relationship with their teachers and makes it feel more like one big family.
