“Even teachers I have never had always smile in the hallways or wave hello. This creates a warm, community, atmosphere that sets the school apart.”

Class of 2023, Scituate High School

Julienne Racine

Elementary School: North Scituate Elementary School

CTE Pathway: Biomedical Pathway

Post High School Plans: I will be attending the University of Massachusetts-Amherst to study Biochemistry and Molecular Biology on the premed track within the Commonwealth Honors College.

Dream Job: I am majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology on the premed track. My dream is to become an oncologist. I hope to be able to provide comfort and treatment to patients who need it.

Who was your favorite teacher or staff member during your time at SHS?: My favorite teacher at Scituate High School is Mrs. Roberge. She is a teacher within the Science department and the Biomedical Pathway, as well as the Scituate High School HOSA Chapter. She not only taught me the basics of biochemistry, the major I will be pursing in college, but she has served as a mentor to me as I navigate my path as a future health professional. Mrs. Roberge is always willing to go the extra mile and find opportunities for students that she knows they will enjoy and will be beneficial to them. I would not be the same student, person, or future health professional I am today without her.

What was your most favorite class you took during your time at SHS?: One of my favorite classes that I have taken at Scituate High School is AP US Government and Politics. I have enjoyed the small group discussions that occur in this class as well as the direct application that it has in my life. I have also enjoyed having the opportunity to listen to and speak with RI congressional leaders and feel extremely knowledgeable about the world around me.

What advice would you give to next year’s ninth-grade students?: Do not be afraid to ask for help! Department nights are held every week for students to ask any question they may have, take advantage of this. This not only helps you understand the content and feel more confident in the subject matter, but it helps to build relationships with your teachers and gives them more information about you as a learner. Teachers are there to help and they want to you succeed.

What makes SHS special?: The teachers at Scituate truly make the school special. The faculty is extremely welcoming and gets to know the students. Teachers that I had freshman year still remember me and my classmates as well as some of our interests. Even teachers I have never had always smile in the hallways or wave hello. This creates a warm, community, atmosphere that sets the school apart.
